According to information from a French portal, the Chinese company SMEE, specialized in manufacturing and chip production, announced that it will begin manufacturing chips on its new 28nm lithography machines later this year.
Until recently, China was limited to developing 90nm chips with its most advanced equipment, a figure far short of the 5 nm chips produced by companies such as TSMC (Taiwan), Samsung (South Korea) and Intel (United States). United).
Although 28 nm is still far from the most advanced levels mentioned, it represents a considerable advance compared to the 90 nm that China used until last year.
Surprisingly, SMIC, another Chinese company, managed to develop 7nm chips on machines not originally designed for such production, thanks to equipment provided by ASML.
However, due to restrictions, SMIC will no longer be able to purchase machinery from ASML and other companies associated with the United States.
As a result, China made a significant investment, approximately 215 billion reais, to boost production in its national industry.
Although more advanced machines are on the horizon, China can already boast of having developed 28nm lithography devices, a remarkable feat compared to the 90nm of the past.
With these advances, China continues to lead the way in technological development in several areas, solidifying its position in the global semiconductor scenario.
