However, the question arises: How much does it cost to charge an electric vehicle? Furthermore, what options are available to charge these cars both in public settings and at home?
Residential energy
Adopting an electric car implies the need to have a charging point at home, as it is impractical to have an electric car without the ability to recharge it at home.
However, installing this charging point, also known as a wallbox, involves some costs. The value of electricity may vary according to the region due to taxes.
For example, in São Paulo, the average tariff is 0.90 R$/kWh, while in Rio de Janeiro, this value is 0.75 R$/kWh.
As for the 11kW wallbox, the estimated price is between R$6,000 and R$12,000, in addition to costs related to labor for installation.
Some electric car manufacturers offer the alternative of purchasing the vehicle with a wallbox, including installation at the customer's home.

Many of these spots offer the convenience of paying for parking only, making charging affordable for electric vehicle owners.
However, it is important to note that power availability in these locations is often limited, as demand for charging is high with the growing adoption of hybrid and electric vehicles.
Most chargers in commercial establishments, such as shopping malls, stores and supermarkets, provide energy with a capacity of 7 kW or, at most, 11 kW.
On the other hand, paid charging points tend to provide more power, ranging from 22 kW to 50 kW, and in some cases even exceeding 100 kW.

Electrostations
Applications such as Tupinambá, EzVolt and initiatives from companies such as Shell have made it easier to locate charging stations available to the public, with expansion plans in high demand regions, such as São Paul.
Regarding the cost of energy in these new charging stations, it varies between R$1.50 and R$1.95 per kWh.
To illustrate the cost of recharging, let's consider a vehicle like the Renault Kwid E-tech, which has 26.8 kWh of battery capacity, offering a range of 280 kilometers. In this case, the cost of a complete recharge would be R$52.26.
For a vehicle like the Volvo XC40, which has a 75 kWh battery and a range of 420 kilometers, the total cost for a full charge would reach R$ 146.25.
