Stacy Medina, a 59-year-old woman from the state of Nevada, in the United States, has always carried with her the desire to meet her biological mother, since she was adopted when she was still a child.
In March 2021, she made the decision to undertake a DNA test hoping to find clues that would lead her to her mother. What happened, however, was something she could never have predicted: instead of her mother, she found her lost son.

Stacy Medina grew up knowing that she had been adopted by her parents, Rochelle, who passed away in 2003, and David, who left us in 2021. She had a happy childhood alongside her older brothers, Jeff and Craig.
However, when she was just 16, Stacy's life took an unexpected turn when she became pregnant. Despite the shock her family suffered at the news, they supported her fully, and Stacy gave birth to her daughter in January 1981, just two days before her 17th birthday.
“Being a mother at such a young age, the journey has been incredibly challenging. When I got pregnant again at 21 after a relationship, I knew I couldn't raise another child,” Stacy explained.
She never revealed to the baby's father that she was pregnant again and, heartbroken, sought help from an adoption agency to ensure her second child would have a stable and loving life.
The baby was born on November 9, 1985, and Stacy left a letter with the agency, including her contact information in case her son wanted to meet her in the future.
Over the years, Stacy has never stopped thinking about her lost son, openly sharing his story with her partner, Mark, since they met in 1997.
In 2019, Stacy heard about home DNA testing and decided to give it another try. The results connected her with two half-sisters, but they also brought the news that her biological father had passed away, which was a huge blow to her.
Determined to find her biological mother, Mark purchased a DNA test for Stacy as a birthday present in January 2021. The results, however, were surprising.
While she didn't find her mother, Stacy discovered a surprising match: her son, who had taken the same DNA test.
“With shaking hands, I sent him an email, including my number in case he wanted to speak to me. Two hours later, he responded saying he wanted to talk,” Stacy recalled.
His son's name is Ben, he lives nine hours away in California, served in the military and had five children.
Stacy was relieved to learn that Ben had had a happy life with adoptive parents loving, but she was also heartbroken to learn that he had been looking for her for years, including hiring a private detective.
After an emotional video call, mother and son reconnected and began speaking daily. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, they had to wait a year to meet in person. In March 2022, Stacy and Mark drove nearly a thousand miles to Ben's house.
“She was nervous, but as soon as he walked out the door with his youngest son in his arms, we hugged and suddenly everything fell into place. It all felt so natural,” she said.
Ben and his family welcomed her warmly, and now they share a strong bond as a reunited family. Now, Stacy promises to be forever grateful to Mark for the best birthday present she's ever received.
