Amid intense competition in the field of Artificial intelligence (IA), the Saudi Arabia and the UAE has made notable progress by purchasing high-performance components from Nvidia.
In August of this year, Arabia, in particular, would have purchased at least 3 thousand units of Nvidia's H100 chip, through King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST).

Such pieces cost approximately US$40,000 per unit, according to information released by the Financial Times newspaper.
The H100 chip was described by Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, as “the first computer designed specifically for generative AI”.
According to the Financial Times, KAUST in Saudi Arabia is currently in the process of building a supercomputer called “Shaheen III,” which it expects to be launched later this year.
The supercomputer is capable of operating up to 700 Grace Hoppers, due to Nvidia's sophisticated performance superchips, designed with the help of advanced AI.
KAUST plans to employ such chips to create its own language model, software capable of generating text, images and code, similar to OpenAI's GPT-4, which powers ChatGPT.
The Saudi university is expected to receive another 3,000 of these components by the end of 2023, representing a total investment of approximately US$120 million.

In contrast, the United Arab Emirates has already designed its own open source language model called “Falcon”. The project was developed at the Institute for Technological Innovation at Masdar, located in Abu Dhabi.
The software operates similarly to ChatGPT but is designed especially for Arabic languages. These advances highlight the region's significant investment in the field of AI and natural language processing.
Gulf nations had already publicly announced their interest in leading in the field of AI, as part of an ambitious plan to boost their economies.
It is important to note that technology giants such as Tencent and Alibaba have also shown interest in these innovations.
