The National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) dealt a significant blow to piracy by block around 80% of TV Box devices, responsible for the illegal transmission of closed TV signals.
Since the entity intensified its efforts to combat pirated signals in February 2023, the operation carried out on Thursday (26) was the largest and most impactful ever carried out in this regard.

According to Anatel, around seven million pirated devices are currently in use in Brazil. Since February, the agency has already disabled more than three thousand employees who illegally enabled the operation of these TV Boxes.
The fight against illegal transmission systems is continuous work, since those responsible for piracy constantly update such technologies to bypass blocks and maintain transmission active.

Anatel has been strengthening its anti-piracy actions with a powerful ally: a laboratory dedicated to the fight against pirated TV broadcasting.
On site, specialized technicians can track and identify irregular TV Box devices, allowing their transmissions to be blocked.
The place has the capacity to analyze 100 servers simultaneously and transmits operations on 12 big screens, allowing professionals to interrupt signals.
It is essential to highlight the threats of using pirated TV broadcasting devices. Firstly, the illegality itself, since the devices are not authorized by Anatel.
Furthermore, there are serious concerns regarding user safety. Moisés Moreira, coordinator of combating piracy at Anatel, warns of the dangers:
“This box will be connected to your home’s internet. If you have your cell phone on your home Wi-Fi, accessing your bank account details, for example, it [the pirated device] can steal your password, your personal data, and this is a high risk for the user also.
He [the user] has to be aware that he is paying for a cheaper service, but it is a pirated service, which brings great dangers to networks in our country and to himself”, warns the expert.
Anatel's operation is, therefore, not only a victory against piracy, but also a warning to all users about the dangers associated with these illegal devices.
When combating the piracy of the TV signal, the agency can guarantee the security and integrity of Brazilian citizens' networks and data.
