After years of study, scientists at Aalto University, located in Finland, have created a new waterproof surface that promises to be the most effective ever created.
The method was dubbed “the most water-repellent surface of all time”, as it prevents molecules from penetrating the surface.

According to New Atlas, the coating is similar to those that already exist today, which allow water to run off the surface. However, what sets it apart are the angles, which are 500 times shallower than those of other hydrophobic materials.
The material is similar to a liquid surface, called LLS, with self-assembled monolayers (SAMs). These layers cover what we call a silicon substrate.
However, when adjusting some essential points, such as temperature, water and other criteria, it was possible to control the amount of silicon that the SAMs would coat.
With low coverage, the surface becomes slippery as it becomes superhydrophobic. The discovery was surprising, since, according to Sakari Lepikko, author of the research, it seemed unlikely that a low cover would produce a slippery surface.
According to Aalto University, since water is in direct contact with solid surfaces, it is It is necessary to understand how each molecule reacts to this contact, whether through adhesion or Slipping.
This helps scientists create new products and improve technologies. Thus, SAMs coatings are the greatest water repellents that have been discovered to date.
So, with the high angle, the water can slide in from almost any angle that isn't perfectly level. Still according to Lepikko, there are some possible uses for this discovery on the market: heat transfer in pipes, defrosting and anti-fog are at the top of the list.
