Would you have the courage to spend about R$ 2.5 thousand in a sneaker that could be worn once once? It seems absurd, but this is Adidas' new proposal with the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1. The model designed for racing is being sold for US$500, with the premise of improving the results of marathon runners. However, unlike other running shoes, it only lasts for a marathon.

The model is the lightest ever produced by Adidas, being part of the company's objective of entering the competition for the best carbon fiber running shoes. In total, 521 units were sold, being made available only to elite runners who can complete a marathon in up to 3 hours and 30 minutes.
Some of these users reported that they immediately felt the difference when using the shoes and that they were able to improve their race times. However, the product has been heavily criticized due to its short useful life.
When purchasing a $500 shoe to be used in just one race, the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1 becomes the tennis least sustainable on the market. Despite the disputes, Adidas stated that it will maintain the price, as the value “reflects the high-performance materials and designs within the product”.
However, there is still no evidence that the new model really guarantees better performance in tests. According to Adidas, the new foam increases energy capture and the new sole design projects the sole upwards close to the toes. However, there is no evidence that these differences actually interfere with performance in evidences.
Furthermore, the durability of sneakers is one of the controversial points. In general, running shoes last for at least four marathons. In the case of the new Adidas model, the company left out several points to make the sneaker lighter, reducing its useful life to just one run.
Contrary to what was announced, some experts fear that the sneakers will begin to deteriorate even during the marathon. Therefore, instead of helping the athlete in the race, the shoes could create risks for the runners.
