The title of first city was once again won by São Caetano do Sul, located in São Paulo. The city stood out for having the third highest life expectancy for those turning 60 and the second highest population of people over 60.
The Longevity Institute (IDL) assessment criteria, which encompass health, impact socio-environmental and economic aspects, revealed the reasons why these cities occupy the highest positions of the ranking.
It is important to note that the research involved a significant number of municipalities, a total of 876, extending beyond the 498 that participated in the first edition of the ranking, carried out in 2017.
1. São Caetano do Sul (São Paulo)
This city stood out mainly in the health area, ranking eighth in the number of hospital beds and second in hospital procedures performed.
It is also home to a specific elderly population, who benefit from a series of municipal programs focused on promoting socialization and well-being.
2. Vitoria, Espirito Santo)
Vitória took first place among the cities with the highest life expectancy at age 60, a remarkable feat. The city also stood out in the area of health, ranking third in terms of the lowest number of deaths of elderly people due to infectious and parasitic diseases.
3. Santos (São Paulo)
Santos is a coastal city that stands out in the economic area, mainly due to the fact that it houses one of the largest ports in Brazil.
Furthermore, the city has the largest population over 60 years of age across the country and obtained good indices related to the consumption capacity of the elderly.
4. Florianópolis (Santa Catarina)
Florianópolis stands out for its number of hospitals affiliated with medical schools, which can be extremely beneficial when elderly people need healthcare services. The city also achieved high socio-environmental indexes, contributing to its fourth position in the ranking.
5. Curitiba, Parana)
