The intense heat wave that hits Brazil will be felt exceptionally by residents of 1,413 municipalities, as warned by the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet). According to the Institute, the entire Southeast, South, North and Northeast regions are under an orange “danger” alert, which indicates temperatures 5º above than expected for up to five consecutive days.

In total, 13 states will feel the impacts of the phenomenon directly, namely: São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo, Amazonas, Bahia, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Pará, Paraná, Mato Grosso do Sul, Rondônia and Tocantins.
However, 1,138 cities in seven states are under red alert of “great danger”, due to high temperatures remaining for more than five days in a row. The states under this alert are: São Paulo, Distrito Federal, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul and Rondônia. The forecast indicates that temperatures will exceed 40 °C.
This is already the eighth heat wave that has passed through the country, reaching temperatures above 42 °C. Due to the extreme heat in the Midwest and Southeast, states in these regions can expect isolated storms in the late afternoon. Pay attention to the risk of intense rain and windstorms, with possible disruptions, throughout the week.
Thus, the intense heat wave occurs due to dry weather, which favors increased sunshine. When releasing a red alert, Inmet warns that the meteorological situation is dangerous, with “great probability of damage and accidents occurring, with risk to physical integrity or even life human.”
In these periods of extreme heat and low humidity, Brazilians must pay attention to hydration, as current conditions are favorable for dehydration and dryness of the skin, nose, eyes and mouth.
According to MetSul forecasts, El Niño will cause a strong heat wave in most of the country, while the South will face storms and excessive volumes of rain with flooding. The accumulation is expected to reach marks between 100 mm and 200 mm in several cities. However, the warning is for the northern half of Gaúcha and Santa Catarina, where precipitation can reach between 300 mm and 400 mm.
Isolated storms of wind and hail are expected, with a risk of flooding and flooding. Finally, the heaviest rain begins to move to the North throughout the week, reaching the Southwest of Paraná.
