Brazil could face a new deadly heat wave, as announced by World Weather Attribution. According to the announcement, released by Globo Rural, South American countries are 100 times more prone to heat waves due to the damage caused to the environment.

The researchers stated that, even with the impacts on climate patterns caused by El Niño, its contribution to extreme heat is small when compared to the impacts of global warming. Temperatures rose by around 4.3 °C between the months of August and September in Latin America. Even at the end of winter, countries like Brazil and Argentina recorded highs of up to 40 °C.
Furthermore, the research also states that these events will become even more common. “Heat events like this will become even more common and hotter. With global average temperatures 2°C above pre-industrial levels, these events will be five times more likely to raise the temperature by 1.1 to 1.6 °C compared to what is observed at the moment".
By stating the greater frequency and intensity of heat waves, the research predicts that the phenomenon could increase global temperatures. The estimate is that the increases will be another 2 °C. In this way, episodes of great intensity and high probability of lethality may occur periodically, every five or six years.
However, the increase in temperatures has already been felt by Brazilians in recent months. According to forecasts released by the National Institute of Meteorology of Brazil (INMET), Cuiabá (MT) and São Paulo (SP) had the hottest spring start in the last 63 years. As a result, the maximum temperatures recorded exceeded 40 °C, with the thermal sensation remaining above 44 °C.
