The undisputed success of banana all over the world is not without reason. After all, this fruit, originally from Asia, is tasty, extremely nutritious and easy to find.

Below you will discover some facts discovered by a study that analyzed new uses for banana peels. Keep reading, it's worth it!

Banana peel as an ingredient for delicious dishes

In a study carried out in 2022, experts in gastronomy made interesting discoveries. During sampling, it was proven that banana peel can be crushed and become a flour with various uses.

Among these uses, experts cited the creation of cookies, cakes, bread and other baked, cooked and even raw products.

Additionally, scholars have attested that the properties contained in banana pulp, such as high amounts of magnesium, potassium, vitamins and fiber, remains present in flour made with its bark. In other words, the products created from it are invariably nutritious.

Finally, exceptional durability was also observed, especially in cookies made with banana peel. On average, they lasted around three months while still fresh when kept in cool places and away from humidity.

A sustainable option

In recent decades, efforts have increased towards the standardization of products made from fruit peels, such as bananas, avocados, oranges, mangoes and many others.

The use of these products that generally become organic waste is, on the one hand, an encouragement to healthy living. But, on the other hand, it is a sustainable practice that helps combat food waste.

So, the next time you eat a banana, remember to give your peels a better use, whether in the preparation of flour, like the one mentioned above, or in any other form. By throwing them in the trash you will be wasting a lot!
