Scientist mothers and researchers with disabilities will receive research grants in RJ

In a recent announcement, the Rio de Janeiro State Research Support Foundation (Faperj) guaranteed the granting research grants to mother scientists and researchers who have some type of deficiency.

The notices, which are scheduled for 2024, were prepared by the entity's Permanent Committee on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and subsequently approved by its superior council.

The first call (announcement) will be for women researchers who became mothers in the last six months. The subsequent notice will cover researchers with disabilities.

In total, 21 proposals will be accepted to host research projects from scientist mothers who have worked in a science and educational institution. technology headquartered in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

To do so, these women must have become mothers in the last six months, as mentioned above. Additionally, motherhood may have been established biologically or through adoption of a child.

The Serrapilheira Institute and Parent in Science are supporting this modality of offering scholarships to working mothers to enhance scientific practice.

In the case of researchers with disabilities, there will be 15 projects. It is also known that to have their project appreciated, the scientist must have a doctorate degree and have worked as a professor or technician in scientific institutions in RJ.

The disability presented by the specialist can be either congenital or acquired, such as consequences of accidents or illnesses.

According to Faperj, each project will have a budget of R$120,000 and will include the granting of initiation scholarships to students who are interested in assisting the responsible researcher.

“Resources must total R$120,000 for each project. The so-called Support for Scientist Mothers will have Scientific Initiation scholarships. The Support for Scientists with Disabilities notice must include Training and Technical Qualification (TCT) grants, in addition to Scientific Initiation grants”, described the institution.
