Velcro was invented by Georges de Mestral, a Swiss engineer who, when he went for a walk with your dog, came back full of burrs stuck to your clothes and your pet's fur. One day, overcome by curiosity, Georges decided to examine how they clung so tightly together. He placed the burrs under a microscope and observed that they _____________ hooks similar to those on crochet needles. Soon, he had the idea of using the same principle in Velcro, created in 1948.
