Percentage is a measure of ratio based on 100. It is a way of making a proportion or a relation between 2 values from a fraction whose denominator is 100, that is, it is dividing a number by 100.
Examples:
• Gasoline increased by 15%.
It means that for every R$100 there was an increase of R$15.00.
• The customer received a 10% discount on all merchandise.
It means that for every R$100 a discount of R$10.00 was given.
• Of the players who play at Flamengo, 90% are aces.
It means that out of every 100 players who play at Flamengo, 90 are aces.
Understanding percentages is essential to our development as it is quite commonplace to see information being expressed in percentage numbers everywhere.
