This is the date on which Soil Conservation Day is celebrated around the world. It was chosen in honor of the birthday of American Hugh Hammond Bennett, considered a pioneer in the proposal of soil conservation. He has done a lot of research on the subject in the United States and other countries.
Here in Brazil, Soil Conservation Day entered the national calendar of celebrations in 1990. How about you prepare a special activity that day? Invite your friends and tell them how interesting it can be to find out what's under the ground we're standing on. Soils have been increasingly degraded because, until today, little is known about them. Maybe you'll make a beautiful scientific discovery!
