Or the intrepid who lives saving helpless young ladies from equally strong, brave, and cunning villains?
In the Middle Ages, when men fought with bows and arrows, spears and swords, knights appeared.
And with them, a code of honor called the code of chivalry. In those days of the past, the hero was the knight who followed this code. And according to the laws of chivalry, he was supposed to be fair, loyal, obey the king, defend the wronged and… protect damsels in distress.
When fighting, the knight could not attack the enemy from behind, but must face him face to face. Victory at any price no longer mattered. It was better to die with honor than to win by treachery and low blows. One who achieved victory through cruelty and disloyalty was considered a villain, a despicable person.
