Stimulus, aging and memory

Can characteristics of the living environment affect mental processes such as learning and memory? To seek an answer, young and old mice were raised in different cages - a common one, without any attractiveness, and the another filled with assorted objects - and then the ability of these animals to learn and remember was evaluated with tests specific. The study showed better cognitive performance of those kept in the enriched and stimulating environment. The count of a type of cell – astrocytes – in a region of the brain involved with memory also indicated that variations in animal performance seem to be associated with important differences in the number and distribution of these animals. cells.
