A woman with wide chairs, she effortlessly gave birth to her first child in her family's bed. She was offering him her breast, still lying down, when the neighbor came to visit her. He bent over, praising the little one, handed his mother the orange he had brought, and soon said goodbye. But still at the door, he turned, looked at the bed.

“Bed of life, bed of death,” he said without joy.

And gone.

It was a beautiful bed, made of long-polished wood and many hands. He had welcomed his mother, and his mother's mother. But from that day on, the woman could not lie down on it. Not remembering the neighbor's words. Nightmares crept into her dreams.

He waited for the peddler to come. The afternoon he finally heard her singing echoing between the houses, he ran out into the street and offered her the bed.

- I'm not interested in furniture - replied the peddler, who knew how to take advantage of the desire of others. - I have no use for this one.

And as the woman insisted:

- If it's to do you a favor, I'll take it. But I can only pay four coins.

The woman smoothed the carved roses on the headboard once more. Then he handed over the bed in exchange for the four

coins, and saw her drive away in the peddler's cart.

Four coins were of little use. Those seemed to burn in the palm of your hand. The woman went to the back of the yard, dug a hole in the dark earth, and buried the coins.

After a few weeks, how could one know, among so many plants, that a seedling had sprouted in the place of the disturbed earth?

And the woman had other children and her children grew up. And one day she felt dizzy, she thought the sun was getting too dark, she leaned against the wall. The woman had fallen ill.

He lay down that day in his narrow bed. The next day it began to wither away.

Withered, withered. He had no more strength to get up.

She was so thin and fragile that her husband, wanting to give her some comfort, decided to make her a new bed. The seedling was now a leafy tree. The husband went to the back of the yard and shot her down.

For days he sawed, sanded, hammered. For days his own sweat soaked into the wood. Ready for bed, tight fittings, polished headboard. Then he took the chisel and carefully carved four roses.
