NAME:
read the excerpt love and reason, written by Father Antônio Vieira:
Love is always painted as a child, because, even though it is over seven, like Jacob's, it never reaches the age of use of reason. Using reason and loving are two things that don't come together. The soul of a boy who comes to be? A will with affections, and an understanding without use. Such is vulgar love. Everything wins love when it wins a soul; but the first surrender is the understanding. Nobody had the feverish will, who didn't have the frantic understanding. Love will cease to vary if it is firm, but it will not cease to vary if it is love. Fire never scorched the will that smoke did not blind the understanding. There was never an infirmity of the heart that there was no weakness of judgment.
