Greenland, with 2,130,800 square kilometers in area, is the largest island in the world. It is in North America, surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the Glacial Arctic Sea. Greenland is the 12th largest country in the world, has only 57,000 inhabitants and is the second largest ice reserve (only behind Antarctica). Did you know that Australia, with an area three times that of Greenland, is not considered an island by most geographers, despite being surrounded by the Pacific and Indian oceans? Because it is very large, it is seen as the continental portion of Oceania.
