The story takes place in England in the 16th century just before the death of Henry VIII. Tom Canty a very poor boy and full of imagination manages to enter the royal palace to see Edward, Prince of Wales. The prince takes him to his room and there they discover how similar they are. They wear each other's clothes and realize that there is no difference between the two. Edward leaves the palace in Tom's clothes and can no longer enter because no one recognizes him.
