NAME:
That city was not inhabited by people, like every other city on the planet.
That city was inhabited by wells. Living wells… but after all wells.
The wells were distinguished from each other not only by the place where they were excavated, but also by the parapet (the opening that connected them to the outside).
There were rich and ostentatious wells with parapets of marble and precious metals; humble brick and wood wells, and poorer ones, simple shallow holes that opened in the earth.
Communication between the inhabitants of the city was made from parapet to parapet, and news spread quickly from one end of the village to the other.
One day, a “fashion” arrived in the city that had certainly been born in some small human settlement.
The new idea was that anyone self-respecting should take care of the interior much more than the exterior. The important thing was not the superficial, but the content.
That's how the wells began to fill with things. Some were filled with jewels, gold coins and precious stones. Others, more practical, filled with household appliances and mechanical devices. Others still opted for art, and were filled with paintings, grand pianos and sophisticated postmodern sculptures. Finally, intellectuals were filled with books, ideological manifestos and specialized magazines.
The time has passed. Most of the wells were filled to the point where they could no longer contain anything.
One of them was the first. Instead of squeezing the contents, he remembered to increase its capacity by widening.
It didn't take long for the idea to start being imitated. All wells used much of their energy to expand to create more space inside. A well, small and far from the center of the city, began to see its colleagues that grew immeasurably. He thought that if they continued to widen in that way, the parapets of the various wells would soon blur and each one would lose its identity…
Perhaps from that idea, it occurred to him that another way to increase his capacity would be to grow, but not in width, but in depth. Become deeper instead of wider. It quickly dawned on him that everything inside him prevented him from deepening. If you wanted to go deeper, it would be necessary to empty yourself of all content...
At first he was afraid of emptiness. But when he saw that there was no other possibility, he quickly got to work. Emptied of possessions, the well began to grow deep, while others took possession of the things he had discarded…
One day, something surprised the well that grew inside. Inside, deep inside and very deep… he found water!
Never before had any other well found water. The well overcame its surprise and began to play with the water at the bottom, moistening its walls, splashing its parapet, and finally throwing the water out.
The city had never been watered except for rain, which was actually quite sparse. So the land around the well, revitalized by the water, began to wake up. The seeds of his bowels sprouted in the form of grass, clovers, flowers and delicate little stems that later turned into trees…
Life exploded in color around the remote well, which they began to call 'the Vergel'.
Everyone asked him how he had achieved that miracle.
"It's no miracle," replied the Vergel. — You should look inside, all the way to the bottom.
Many wanted to follow Vergel's example, but got bored with the idea when they realized that in order to be deeper, they had to empty. They continued to fill up more and more with things…
At the other end of town, another well decided to run the risk of emptying itself...
And he also started digging…
And it also reached the water...
It also splashed to the outside creating a second green oasis in the village…
"What are you going to do when the water runs out?" they asked him.
"I don't know what will happen," he replied. “But for now, the more water I draw, the more water there is.
A few months passed before the great discovery.
One day, almost by chance, the two wells realized that the water they had found at the bottom of themselves was the same...
That the same underground river that passed through one flooded the depth of the other
They realized that a new life was opening for them.
Not only could they communicate with each other from parapet to parapet, superficially, like everyone else, but the search had also made them discover a new, secret point of contact.
They had discovered the deep communication that can only be achieved by those who have the courage to empty themselves of content and look deep into their being for what they have to give…
