Why does the skin lose its tan?
Because the skin's layers are always renewing. It works like this: in the deepest layer there are melanocytes, cells responsible for producing the melanin pigment, which gives us our natural color. When we expose ourselves to the sun, these cells produce more melanin and we tan. But about four weeks later, all the cells are renewed. Then, those that are full of melanin leave the deepest layer and go to the most superficial, until they are eliminated.
