Entropy: what is entropy? – Education and Transformation

THE entropy it is a measure of the degree of disorder that occurs in a system. It is a measure of power outage.

It is directly related to the Second Law of Thermodynamics and its tendency is to increase in the universe.

Here the entropy it should not be seen as a disorder in the sense of a mess, but a different way of organizing the system. Despite this, the concept of this magnitude is applied in other areas such as clutter to reach common sense.

A simple example is to take blue and red balls and put the red balls in an empty pot and on top of them, the blue balls. Here the balls are organized by color, ie entropy.

When the pot is shaken, the balls get mixed up and we won't be able to get them into early position. The color-ordered system now becomes a scrambled system with mixed dots.

Entropy and thermodynamics

The researcher Nicolas Sadi Carnot was the one who developed the concept of

entropy. In his study of the transformation of mechanical energy into thermal energy, he saw that it was possible to have a thermal machine that was fully efficient.

The first law of thermodynamics shows that energy is conserved. This says that in physical processes, energy is never lost, it just transforms into another type of energy.

A machine uses a process where it is heated to generate energy. Here mechanical energy becomes thermal energy. Thermal energy does not go back to being mechanical energy.

Lord Kevin later complemented Carnot's studies regarding the irreversibility of thermodynamic processes, which gave rise to the Second Law of Thermodynamics.

Rudolf Clausius was the first researcher who used the term entropy in the year 1865. THE entropy it is the measure of the amount of thermal energy that cannot be converted into mechanical energy at a certain temperature.
