urban Legion
In the slums, in the senate
Dirt everywhere
Nobody respects the constitution
But everyone believes in the future of the nation
What country is this?
What country is this?
What country is this?
In Amazonas, in Araguaia,
in the Baixada Fluminense
In Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais and
in the Northeast all in peace
What country is this?
What country is this?
What country is this?
What country is this?
third world if it is
joke abroad
But Brazil will get rich
let's make a million
When we sell all souls
Our Indians at an auction.
What country is this?
What country is this?
What country is this?
What country is this?
Read and answer questions 1 and 2.
"In the slums, in the senate
Dirt everywhere
Nobody respects the constitution
But everyone believes in the future of the nation…”
1) Explain, why does the lyrical self say that in the favelas and in the senate there is dirt and no one respects the constitution? What do you mean by constitution? And what kind of dirt is he referring to?
2) Then there is a statement that “everyone believes in the future of the nation”… Who is the future of the nation? And do you agree with this statement of the lyrical self? Because?
Read the stanza below and answer question 3.
"In Amazonas, in Araguaia,
in the Baixada Fluminense
In Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais and
in the Northeast, all in peace…”
In this stanza, references are made to some regions of the country. The Amazon region, for example, is directly linked to drug trafficking, the Baixada Fluminense is one of the most violent regions in our country. We can highlight historical facts such as the Guerrilha do Araguaia. The Northeast, which faces problems such as the drought that results in the concentration of income; in Mato Grosso, the struggle of the Indians, among other problems in this country that, from North to South, those who are in charge are people with high purchasing power.
3) Given this information, explain why the lyrical self says that “all is at peace…”. What is the criticism implied in this verse? Comment.
Read this stanza and answer question 4.
” In death I rest, but the blood runs loose
Staining papers, faithful documents
To the rest of the boss..."
4) Check the alternative that best fits the interpretation of the stanza above:
I. There is a double meaning in the highlighted verse: The sense that the lyrical self will only rest when it dies. Another sense is that death can be seen as a mechanism of the powerful to silence the weaker, because right after, there are the verses " staining papers, faithful documents" (as if politicians using influence had disappeared with evidence or altered documents important).
II. There is no double meaning in this passage and the word death means rest from so much struggle for survival. And the stains on the papers would be the blood of the people who live fighting in this unequal country.
a) ( ) only alternative I is correct.
b) ( ) only alternative II is correct.
c) ( ) No alternative is correct.
Read the stanza below and answer question 5.
" Third World if
joke abroad
But Brazil will get rich
let's make a million
When we sell all souls
Our Indians at an auction.”
5) This song was written in 1978 many years ago. And the term Third World is what poor countries were called at the time of the Cold War, when capitalist countries disputed world hegemony against socialist countries. Currently, Brazil is considered a developing country. However, we often watch and hear news about social inequalities, overpricing, violence, unemployment, hunger, etc. Do a research and describe a case of overpricing in politics, a case of social inequality and another case of violence that shocked the country. Unemployment rates are currently the state in which people are most hungry. She presents the data to her teacher and her class in just three slides. Good research.
6) We are living in moments of uncertainty in our country, in all sectors: in the economy, in education, in health, etc. After analyzing the music and conducting research, write a dissertation text answering the following questions: What do you expect for the future of your country?; Do you believe there will be good changes?; What does it take for us to live fairly?; What needs to be done to generate employment for the population?; What is needed for health and education to be the pillars of our country?
Good production!
