The date chosen to celebrate the Circus day was the date of the 27th of the month of March. There's a good reason it's that date and not any other. On the 27th, a great circus star was born here in Brazil. His baptismal name was Abelardo Pinto, however, he was known by many as the clown “Piolin”.
His trajectory started early, that is, as many might have guessed, Piolin was raised inside a circus, so he started to participate in very small shows. At first, he was part of different presentations. His parents, also circus, helped Piolin start his career.
As he perfected his art and invested in his comedic side, Piolin managed to become one of the most recognized clowns.
His recognition was so great that people from abroad began to notice his great work. In addition, he was one of the only circus people to be invited to be part of the Semana da Arte, alongside important artists such as Tarsila do Amaral, for example.
Even President Washington Luis liked to follow his presentations.
Abelardo Pinto won everyone over with his engaging performances.
He was a complete circus performer. Funny, gymnast, creative and also a tightrope walker.
O Circus day in addition to reminding us of childhood, it is a simple way to honor this fantastic Brazilian artist! (Learn more about Circus day here)
