The Lion King, Disney's new film with realistic landscapes and characters, brings images that have the power to transport the viewer to impressive scenarios of African nature. On the other hand, the characters, recreated with digital technology, are very similar to real animals, so they don't have much facial expression, which makes them lose some of their fun.
Unable to make faces, the lions Simba, Nala and Scar, the Zazu bird, the meerkat Timão, the wild boar Pumba and the other actors in the plot lose part of the humor and emotion responsible for the magic of the animation of 1994.
But don't be discouraged: the spectacle produced by the film makes it worth the experience of reliving the story of the little lion who loses his dream of being king and resumes his destiny. Plus, with realism, characters like hyenas aren't as hilarious, but they're a lot scarier than in the original version, which guarantees goosebumps.
Director Jon Favreau's version — the same as in live-action Mogli: the Wolf Boy — faithfully follows the original script, with the exception of some longer scenes and the inclusion of the new song, “Spirit”, voiced by American pop singer Beyoncé in the English version.
For those who have already seen the animation, it is fun and exciting to review scenes with classic songs such as “Hakuna Matata” and “Ciclo Sem Fim” against the stunning backdrop of the African savannah and forest.
Those who haven't seen it should be impressed not only with the power of digital images, but also with the discovery of songs incredible and from a story that, talking about friendship, loyalty, love and destiny, should continue to touch adults and kids.
