On July 12, 1904, Ricardo Eliécer Neftali Reyes, better known as Pablo Neruda, was born in Chile, in the city of Parral. Pablo was the son of a railway worker and had a mother who exercised a beautiful profession, a teacher, unfortunately the writer cannot have a very long relationship with his mother, she died as soon as Neruda came to the world.
At just 2 years old, in 1906, the writer moves with his family to the city of Temuco. Pablo always had within him the great admiration for writing and the gift of writing, with 7 years of age already he attended school, during this period Pablo was already writing and publishing his first poems for the newspaper “La Mananã". In 1919, in Adolescence, at just 15 years of age, the writer participated in the Floral Games of Maulle, and won 3rd place with his poem “Noturno Ideal”.
And do you know how the surname Neruda came about? Soon after his poems were published, Pablo noted that he had to give his name a special touch to thus dedicating his signatures to his works, he took inspiration from a Czech writer named Jan Neruda. In 1920, at just 16 years of age, Pablo was already starting to contribute his works to the literary magazine called “Selva Austral”, already at this stage of his life, he already started signing by his artistic name: Pablo Neruda.
The year of 1921 was also one of great surprises and achievements, already in an almost adult phase, at the age of 17, he enrolled in a Frances course in Santiago, at the University of Chile. Pablo begins to win his first prizes, and it was in the Spring Festival of 1921 that he won his second literary prize with the poem called “A Canção da Festa”. Faced with so many significant creations throughout his life, in 1923, at the age of 19, the writer begins to bet on his first publications, creating a book called “Twilight”, in this book brings together all of his poems created during his adolescence, a book that refers to the effective, memorial and even melancholic side of memories and dreams.
In 1924, he published another beautiful work called “Twenty Love Poems and a Desperate Song”, a work that led him to worldwide recognition and embraced strong trends in the modernist genre.
During a certain period he followed a diplomatic career for five years representing his country, it was in the year 1933, at the height of his 29 years of old, the writer publishes his main works: "Residence in La Tierra", this work based on surrealism, showing the world in its true face. Neruda traveled to different countries, spent some time in Buenos Aires, a place that met renowned names in the literary world, such as Federico Garcia Lorca. With the arrival of the Spanish civil war, the writer saw the opportunity to write a work about what had happened, and the so-called “Espana em El Corazón” appeared in 1937, with this work and with everything he witnessed during the events of the war, the writer changed his political stance and began to defend and follow the Marxist thoughts, with this scenario began to devote himself fully to the defense of social and political in communism, taking the events and thoughts in his construction.
After some time away from Chile, he returned in 1938, becoming a senator for the Communist Party in 1945, already 45 years old, a very mature stage of the writer. In 1948, Pablo begins to experience very difficult moments, the government sees his party's illegality, which raised thoughts critics and realists, the writer criticized the way mine workers were treated in the current presidency of Gonzáles Videla, because of this fact, began to be persecuted by the government and was exiled to Europe, during this period he wrote the work, “Canto General”, 1950.
It was only in 1952, at the age of 48, that he returned to Chile, which was already free from political ties, at the same time he published works of great importance:
After so many fantastic creations, in 1971 at the age of 67, already in his old age, he was appointed ambassador from Chile in Paris, in 1972, with very fragile and stable health, he returned to his hometown, Santiago.
On September 23, 1973, at the age of 69, Pablo Neruda died in Santiago, 12 days after the military coup in Chile. The writer's body was hidden in the home of relatives and unfortunately not even after his death had respect, police from the dictatorship invaded the place in a moment of deep sadness and respect.
Pablo left life with several awards won, such as the Lenin Peace Prize (1953), Doctor Honoris Causa at the University of Oxford (1965) and the Nobel Prize for Literature (1971).
Pablo Neruda visited Brazil several times, in one of these visits his presence was the most remarkable of all, in the middle of the Pacaembu stadium, at the Nobel Prize in literature, in São Paulo, the writer presented a poem in honor of the communist Luis Carlos Prestes, who was released that same day, after 10 years in prison by the dictatorship of Vargas.
Other articles:
In his memoirs considered autobiographical “I confess that I lived”, he reports that he met a woman of humble origin, she had the function of collecting and discarding a can with its feces, it was a kind of “Servant”, he quotes in the book: “One morning, very determined, I held it firmly by the wrist and looked at it in the face. There was no language I could speak. She allowed herself to be guided by me without a smile and was soon naked in my bed",
Not stopping there, he quotes: “It was the encounter of a man with a statue. She remained the entire time with her eyes wide open, impassive. She was right to despise me. The experience was not repeated”, thus concluding.
Many rightly criticize the attitude of the writer who went unnoticed for a long time in the excerpt of his book that reports such an event, many they defend him by the fact that he is a "Young" only 24 years old, alone in an unknown country, as if that were a nice justification for such a act.
As a result, the project to Baptize the airport with the name of the Poet was postponed, also having behind it the refusal and negativity of his posture in front of the communist politician.
Here are two of Pablo's main poems:
IF YOU FORGET ME (PABLO NERUDA)
if you forget me
I want you to know something
you know how it is
If I look at the crystal moon
On the red branch of autumn coming
if i touch near fire
the impalpable gray
or the wrinkled body of the branch
everything leads me to you
As if everything that exists
Aromas, lights, metals
Were small boats sailing
towards those islands that wait for me
Well now if little by little you stop loving me
I must stop loving you little by little
if you suddenly forget me
do not look at me
Because I must have already forgotten you
If you think this is long and crazy
the wind of the flags
that passes through my life
You decide, But remember, if you
Leave me on the shore of the heart where I took root
on this day, at this time
I will cross my arms
And my roots will leave to look for another land.
But if, every day, every hour
You feel like you're meant for me
with its relentless sweetness
If every day a flower, climb to your lips looking for me
Remember if
In me all this fire also exists
In me nothing is extinguished or forgotten
my love feeds on your love
And as long as you live, I'll be in your arms.
I LOVE YOU (Pablo Neruda)
I love you in an inexplicable way,
in an unspeakable way,
in a contradictory way.
I love you, with my moods that are many
and change moods continuously
from what you already know
the time,
life,
the death.
I love you, with the world I don't understand
with people who don't understand
with the ambivalence of my soul
with the inconsistency of my actions
with the fate of fate
with the conspiracy of desire
with the ambiguity of the facts
even when i say i don't love you i love you
even when I'm wrong, I'm not wrong
in the background I carry out a plan
to love you better
I love you, without thinking, unconsciously
irresponsibly, spontaneously
involuntarily, by instinct
on impulse, irrationally
I actually don't have logical arguments
not even improvised
to substantiate this love I feel for you
that mysteriously appeared out of nowhere
that didn't magically solve anything
and that miraculously, little by little, with little and nothing,
improved the worst of me.
Love you
I love you with a body that doesn't think
with an unreasonable heart
with a head that doesn't coordinate.
love you incomprehensibly
without asking me why i love you
not caring because I love you
without questioning me because i love you
Love you
simply because i love you
I don't even know why I love you…
