Solar Energy: benefits, environment, homes and industries

THE solar energy it comes from the light and heat of the sun that can be harnessed through technologies such as solar heating, photovoltaic solar energy, heliothermal energy and solar architecture.

THE solar energy it is a renewable and sustainable source.

Benefits of solar energy

  • It's clean energy with no harm to nature
  • Generates electricity in a renewable way

Due to the fact that solar energy is obviously not used to its fullest at night.

Companies are emerging, working to create equipment that make the capture of this sustainable energy more efficient.

the power

THE solar energy supersedes all other forms of energy that for us human beings is inexhaustible. See some technologies for capturing this energy:

Photovoltaic solar energy - direct conversion of solar radiation into electrical energy

Photovoltaic energy uses semiconductor materials such as crystalline silicon to convert solar energy into electricity.

Photovoltaic energy has been around for 100 years, it is used to generate electricity in homes and industries. A solar panel is needed for protection and durability of the

solar energy. The photovoltaic energy system consists of solar panels, a system for fixing the solar panels, solar inverter, cabling and connectors.

  • solar thermal energy: is a system that can generate thermal or electrical energy. The first installation of this system was in 1910, where an engine was powered by steam produced by heating water.
  • Heliothermal solar energy: to obtain this energy, energy concentrators are used as mirrors. This is to focus the energy on a specific point where the water is heated to generate the value that will power an electric turbine.

capturing the energy

  • Direct - this method needs a step to capture the solar energy. We have the example of photovoltaic solar energy where the sun hits a solar panel cell, creating electricity.
  • Indirect - are those that need two or more steps to generate energy. Here we have the example of heliothermal energy.

passive system

This energy system is direct, like a greenhouse that transfers heat from the sun to the air, keeping the environment warm.

active system

The active system works with the help of mechanical devices in order to boost the reception of solar energy.

in the environment

  • A 6 kWp photovoltaic system will prevent the emission of polluting gases into the air for 30 years, which is equivalent to planting trees in an extension of 10 football fields.
  • It saves 6 Olympic swimming pools of water compared to the cost of a hydroelectric power plant.
  • Savings of 79 tons of burned coal
  • Saving 500.00 km of a car using gasoline.
  • The photovoltaic system would also save R$ 250,000.00 over a 30-year period.

Homes and industries

The photovoltaic panel used to generate solar energy in homes produces electrical energy in direct current. The generated energy is connected and distributed through the light frame.

Everything that is connected to an outlet will use this energy generated by the panel. If the generator produces more energy than its consumption, this remaining energy is thrown into the electricity grid to be used at night or in periods of low sun.
