The Saturday afternoon, a little gray, a little cold, seems to have nothing very private for anyone. Cars slide; people go in and out of theaters; boyfriends talk here and there; the bars are active, with a fabulous production of sandwiches and hot dogs. Despite the freshness, the girls wear golden sandals on their feet, while wrapping their heads in scarves with many twists.
This is all routine. There is a certain air of monotony throughout. The Sugarloaf Mountain cable car there is fulfilling its tourist destination, and well-spoken young men explain, pencil in hand, in their colorful and glassed-in offices, apartments that will be built in a few months, with so many floors, views to all sides, marble halls, so much entrance, plus so many installments, no readjustment – the best use of capital ever offered! (…)
Small boats walk across the bay, with a ray of sunlight shining on the sails; there are some fishermen loaded with lines, ferns, reeds, very keen on their skill; there are whole families who don't know where they come from or even imagine where they are going, and who occupy a lot of space on the sidewalk, with their mouths full of things that must be candies, caramels, popcorn, that pass from one cheek to the other and must make them delicious infinite.
