Tyrannosaurus Rex has the strongest bite in history, scientists say
The strength of the dinosaur's mouth reached almost six tons
After that discovery, we humans were very relieved that we didn't live in the dinosaur era. After all, we wouldn't like to have any ancestor snapped up by the Tyrannosaurus rex. British researchers found that the bite of the adult animal is the strongest ever!
They used computer programs to reconstruct the jaw muscles of the carnivorous animal that touched terror in prehistory. And they concluded that the predator has a bite equivalent to 75,000 Newtons, in other words, almost six tons of weight!
To give you an idea of how prey felt inside the T-rex's mouth, it was like being crushed by two elephants, with the difference that in the middle of this crush, there were pointed teeth and very sharp!
Today, the animal that has the most powerful bite is the Mississippi alligator – it can reach 600 pounds of potency. That's the weight of a car, but it's nowhere near the power of the tyrannosaurus.
The research was published in the scientific journal Biology Letters.
