That Cool!
Some spiders make new webs every night. As they are experts, they only take an hour!
Spider silk is finer than a strand of hair, but stronger than a strand of steel the same thickness!
Why do spiders make webs?
Some spiders use sticky traps to capture their prey. They weave fine webs, using silk produced with the help of special glands they have in the body. Silk is liquid inside the spider, but outside its body it becomes a resistant thread. When an insect gets caught in the web, the spider senses its movements through the tiny hairs on its feet, and runs to kill it.
What is the shape of the spider's web?
Spiders weave their rounded webs in open areas, usually between three branches or flower stalks. Some spiders wait around until an insect gets trapped. Others hold a silk thread attached to the center of the web, called a trap thread, and hide. When an insect falls into the trap, the line vibrates and the spider goes to attack.
Where do some spider chicks live?
Some spiders do not make webs to catch other animals, but use them as a "nursery" to protect their young. Spiders take care of their eggs until the chicks are ready to leave(…). These webs are usually woven into plants or shrubs.
