O National Book Day is celebrated in Brazil, annually in October on the 29th. The date was created in honor of a very important invention in our lives: the book.

O book it's fundamental importance for the development of societies and for the intellectual growth of the individual. It is what allows human beings to record important facts of their history and pass these facts on to later societies; acting as a vector of knowledge
O first book printed was the Bible. "Is it over there was printed in 1455, by the German inventor Johannes Gutenberg, long after it finished writing, which happened before the year 100”, explains Mário.

The National Book Day was created in reference to the date on which the National Library of Rio de Janeiro was founded. This year the library received a huge collection of the Royal Portuguese Library.
Brazil began publishing its first books in 1808, when D. João VI founded the Régia press.
But which is the first book published in Brazil? It was “Marília de Dirceu”, by writer Tomás Antônio Gonzaga.
