Land of wonderful breads, cheeses and wines, but also of paradoxes, France lives with contradictory images about it. It is true that the French made the revolution of “freedom, equality and fraternity” – the basis of modern democracy; its History, however, registers discrimination against several minorities. The excellence of their perfumes seems to oppose the idea that bathing is just a sporadically necessary evil. Paris is the most visited city in the world, but its inhabitants seem to hate tourists.
