In this post, we selected an excellent suggestion for the beginning of the school year (back to school), the School Adaptation Project for Early Childhood Education.
Before classes start, it is interesting that the school conducts an interview with the guardians to compose a form with detailed information about each child. This meeting is also an opportunity to create a bond between the institution and the family and give more security to parents.
It is worth asking about favorite games, fears, who is present in the child's daily life, how much time she usually spends with her parents, in addition to special health care and nutrition. With this information, it is easier to plan activities according to the interests and experiences of the classes.

The teacher must show interest in knowing how the child is doing, even if he or she is clinging to the lap of the mother, to create an approximation and transmit security, but without forcing a relationship that is still being created.
For the child to establish a first bond, the ideal is that they are always received by the same person, preferably one of the educators in the class. However, little by little, it is necessary for her to create awareness that the day care center is a collective space. Occasionally, the person responsible for the reception may be absent, so it is important to be familiar with the entire auxiliary team to feel safe.

One of the main concerns of Parents regarding the initiation of their children's Day Care Center is Adaptation.
When parents place their child in a day care center, they have many fears and many doubts:
There are too many doubts that bother parents a lot, especially in the early days of day care.
All these doubts and anxieties, which torment parents so much, are understandable and legitimate, as they will leave their little “treasures” with people who are strangers to them; however, without realizing it, the parents are the main transmitters of anxiety and anguish for little children.
It is generally known that babies adapt more easily to anything new, such as new situations and environments, and the sooner the child enters the daycare, the easier it will be for them to Adapt, although it is a more complicated phase for parents, because their little ones are helpless, which makes it difficult for them to separation.
At this early stage of a child's life, especially when going to day care, there is always an adult in the room with which the child will create stronger and more intense affective bonds, this situation is called Binding. This Bonding will give/bring the child greater security, which will make them feel protected and then be able to convey to the parents that she is well, serene and calm whenever she goes to the nursery.
At an early stage, it is advised that the child and parents adapt in a slow and gradual way, thus reducing anxiety for both.
I usually say that the parents' adaptation is more difficult than the children's, that is, a child gets more used to the separation from the parental figure than the parents to the separation from their children.
After the first week of Adaptation, it is also important to mention that if the child has any object that accompanies him/her always (doll, cloth diaper, etc.) it is important that this object always comes with the child, as it is called an object of Transition. These objects support the achievement of autonomy, since they are a kind of maternal substitute and allow the child to organize in the absence of reference figures. When children feel alone in bed, for example, in daycare, they will use these objects to feel more confident.
Parents, there are several reasons that cause this anxiety, however it is important that fears, anxieties and concerns are not transmitted to children, it is therefore essential that there be safety on your part, when you are going to leave your children at the daycare, even if the child cries or begs that he does not want to stay there, it is important that you do not give in to this type of "blackmail" done by the kids.
In this period of separation anxiety and anguish the child may be reluctant to leave the mother, and it becomes difficult to console, however this child's behavior will eventually disappear. This period of Adaptation does not have a fixed duration, it will depend on each child and each case.
The firmness of parents has an extremely important role at this time, as they must explain to their children with all the affection and love that will pick you up at the end of the day, because even though you like them a lot you have to go work. The child gradually becomes aware of the routine and will know that at the end of the day the parents will pick it up, thus creating security and stability in the child.
The first days at school generate expectations, anxiety, insecurity, anxieties, fears and doubts in parents, children, teachers and employees. Considering this very important moment, it is essential to develop work that facilitates the transition from the family environment to the school, thinking and planning activities that guarantee a gradual insertion, involving everyone in an affective and cozy.

The School Adaptation Project for Early Childhood Education can be adapted to the age group you work in, with the aim of promoting a good adaptation. Check out:
Time: Approximately two months, with daily activities.
Children should be gathered daily for the presentation of new objects. The photos will be presented to the children, at first, individually. After familiarizing everyone with their own photos, the intention will be to socialize the collection.
Constant observation of the behavior of parents and children at the time of farewell and especially throughout the day. During the observation of the photos, pay attention to manifestations of homesickness such as crying or smiling. Note the reactions during the adaptation period, paying attention to the evolutions.
Don't miss:
Recognize your own name and strengthen your bond with the educator. We will sing songs like: “Se Eu Fosse um Peixinho”, “A Canoa Virou”, “Ciranda, Cirandinha” and “Fui ao Itororó”. We will gather the group in a nice place and sing. Children can also participate, as the intention is to familiarize them with the names. To those who are already walking, suggest a wheel, which is formed with those who hear their own name.
Get to know the school routine while talking to the characters. We will sit with the children on the floor and using the puppets “we will talk to each one. Asking questions like: - Who brought you to school today? - Do you have friends? Who are they?- Have you ever played in the park?- Have you had a snack?
In order to reassure themselves about the feelings of adaptation (example: sadness) and share school activities with parents. I will distribute a sheet of paper and felt-tip pens to each child and ask them to make a letter to their parents. When everyone has finished drawings, we will put the proper names on the letters to be delivered when the parents arrive.
For this game we need dolls, doll clothes, fabric scraps, baby bottles and pacifiers. In order to play make-believe during the symbolic game; touching the colleague; and having a good relationship with the group, promoting attitudes of care and affection towards the other needs that are common to everyone, regardless of gender. We are going to propose that each one take a doll and take care of it as if it were their daughter. The little ones should bathe, change diapers and caress.
We will need old magazines and newspapers. We'll sit with the class on the floor, around a pile of old magazines and newspapers. Let's allow everyone to manipulate and tear the pages freely. Gather the shredded papers into a pile and throw everything in the air. It's going to be a party! Afterwards, the shredded paper can be used in collages or modeling dolls.
