Activities with First Name: Identification of one's own name

Give each child a card with their name on it.

  • Present a list of all class names. Write all names in capital letters. In this type of writing, it is easier for the child to identify the limits of the letter, which also makes the spelling less complicated.
  • Ask them to find their own name on the room list. The poster with this list can be large and visible.
  • Ask each one to assemble their own name, using movable letters (which can be purchased or made).
  • Initially carry out this activity from a model (name badge) and then without a model, using the model to check the writing produced. Identification of other class names

  • Cutting and pasting - Cut and paste the names from the table alphabetically.
  • Painting - Paint vowels/Paint consonants.

Activities with First Name: List with children's names

Each child can receive a printed list or put a large list made out of craft paper in the class. You can also use the two lists: the individual and the collective.

Activity 1- Dictation

  • Say a name from the list. Each child should find it on the list in hand and circulate it. Then have a child write that name on the board. Ask them to check if they circled the right name. In order for this activity to be possible for everyone, it is important to provide some help. Say the initial and final letter, for example.

Activity 2 - Making the call

delivered to list call from the children in the room. Invite the children to name the absent children and circle those names. Follow the same guidelines as in activity 1, regarding the help needed to carry out the task.

Activity 3 – Separating girls and boys' names

  • Present the class call list. Ask the children to separate into two columns: girls' names and boys' names.

Observation: In all these activities, it is important to draw attention to the alphabetical order used in the lists. This knowledge: naming the letters of the alphabet is important to help the child find the letter he needs to write. In general, children arrive at school knowing how to “say” the alphabet, although not associating the name of the letter with its outlines. Take advantage of this knowledge so that they can make the relationship between the name of the letter and its path.
