Tendons: what it is, characteristics and types of tendons

You tendons or tendon it is part of our muscular system and it has great functions in our body, such as connecting muscles to bones allowing static and dynamic balance of the skeletal system, and guarantees the movement of our body, in its structure the tendons are constituted by the connective tissue and are part of the striated muscle.

TENDON CHARACTERISTICS

The tendons in their structure are made of a whitish color and have collagen connective tissue fibers, they are thick, rigid and allows great flexibility to the body, and as mentioned above, the tendons are part of the muscle striated.

For a better understanding, the striated muscle is a muscle formed by several muscle fibers and can measure several centimeters, it enables the movements in an individual-dependent way, that is, they are voluntary contractions and are part of the tendons.

Collagen connective tissue, on the other hand, is one of the most important tissues in our body, where the tendon finds the possibility of regeneration when it is taught, it is present in loose connective tissue, this connective tissue needs collagen for elasticity and resistance

As we mentioned, the connective tissue makes it possible to connect the bones to the musculature of our body, in addition, it helps to give stability to the joints, that is, the union of two bones in the joints.

And do you know what the difference is between tendons and joints? The tendons are the connection between muscles and bones, with this connection they allow the bones to transfer enough force to the skeleton. Already the joints are covered by ligaments that allow the junction of two bones in our body.

We also recommend: demossomes and Testosterone.

TYPES OF TENDONS

In our body, there is not only one type of tendon, they can be divided according to its location in skeletal limbs, such as flexor tendon and extensor tendon, let's know each one their?

O flexor tendon is found in the hands, the flexor tendon allows the movement of the hands, such as bending, stretching the fingers, not only of the hands, but also of the feet, an injury in this area can cause serious damage, such as the loss of part of these movements, this can occur due to domestic accidents, such as cutting the finger due to the use of the knife, injuries during the practice of a sport, such as wrestling, and the most common cause is rheumatoid arthritis, all of which can lead to loss of sensation in the hands. These injuries usually require surgery.

already the extensor tendon, it is also similar to the anterior tendon, it is also located in the hands and feet, more specifically on the back of the hands and fingers, its function is allow the most basic movements, such as stretching the fingers and opening and closing the hand, when the extensor tendon is injured, the person loses the ability to extend the hand. Two common injuries can affect the extensor tendon, platform finger and lapel deformity. some type of crushing, arthritis, a lot of force placed on the finger, among others, this can occur in sports games such as basketball, football American. Treatment can be by medication alone or in more severe surgical injuries.

TENDONS OF THE HUMAN BODY

Tendons can be present in various joints of the human body, such as hands, neck, arms, feet, ankles, elbows, shoulders, in short, some injuries to these parts can be quite serious, as mentioned, tendon injuries often occur in people who play sports with large frequency.

Learn more about some of them and the main injuries caused by tendonitis:

TENDON OF THE KNEE:

The Knee has 3 extremely important tendons, such as quadriceps tendon, hamstring tendon, patellar tendon, both of which help with balance and stability of the joints. There are serious injuries that can be caused to the knee, called patellar tendonitis, knee tendonitis causes strong pain in the area, especially when the individual goes for a walk or some exercise physicist. Usually this kind of tendinitis, (tendonitis is the inflammation of the tendons, and nowadays it is being replaced by tendinopathy) can be 3 degrees and affect people who play sports, especially football players and runners, these activities demand a greater use of the muscle, causing injuries, it can affect the elderly due to the lack of collagen and consequently the wear and tear on the bones.

Symptoms are very frequent and continuous, with pain in front of the knee accompanied by swelling, difficulty muscle movement and especially pain when doing some physical activity or even walk.

Treatment depends on the degree of tendonitis, if it is mild it may involve rest accompanied with pain relief medication, or in more cases serious there may be physiotherapy sessions with devices that stimulate the area, if there is a total rupture of the lesion, it is necessary to enter with the surgery.

TENDON OF THE LEG

The leg tendons, like the knee tendons, contain five extensor tendons that are of great importance for performing movements, such as the tibialis. anterior, long and short extensor of the hallux, extensor and flexors of the fingers, which can also be long or short, in the ankle we find the tibial tendons and later.

The most common injuries to happen in the legs is the Achilles tendon rupture, that is, in the heel, it is an injury that directly affects the back of the leg, the injury usually appear in people who play sports frequently, the rupture occurs more frequently in men, between 30 and 40 years of age, medications such as antibiotics facilitate the rupture of the tendon. Symptoms are frequent pain in the area and difficulty walking.

TENDINITE RISK FACTORS

  • Stretching is an extremely important factor to prevent tendonitis, if there is a lack of it, it can cause injuries and muscle pain, that is, overloading the tendons
  • The aging factor can also be a risk factor, as the body loses nutrients important for muscles and consequently collagen and loss of flexibility, causing injuries.
  • The stress factor may surprise many to be a risk factor, stress affects the muscles causing contractures.
  • Repetitive movements is a great warning, we have the example of works carried out in factories, where many workers end up getting sick and mainly compromising the finger movements of the hands,
  • Sports such as tennis, soccer, running, basketball, can cause serious tendon injuries

It is extremely necessary to seek a doctor when there is a serious injury in any part of the body, which can affect the tendons or tendon rupture, it is necessary to pay attention to signs such as redness, pain in the area, swelling and strength compromised.
