Plant reproduction

Plants reproduce by means of seedlings, which are branches or shoots inserted into the ground, or by means of seeds.

Most plants reproduce through seeds. It is the flowers that produce the seeds, but for the seeds to be produced, there must be pollination.

Pollination is when the pollen of a male flower comes into contact with the eggs of female flowers, these reproductive organs of plants are called: androca the male and gynecate the female. The transmission of pollen happens through the wind or by transmission by insects.

The types and quantity of seeds vary from plant to plant, see some examples:

  • Many seeds: some plants produce fruits with many seeds, for example, watermelon, cocoa, jackfruit, etc…;
  • One seed: many plants have fruits with only one seed, for example, avocado, mango, etc…;
  • Other plants do not produce fruits they only produce seeds, these plants are called legumes. Some examples are beans, soy, etc…

To start a new plant, the seed goes through a process called germination. For this process to occur it is necessary to have the appropriate land, water, air and sunlight.
