Gift Ideas to work this commemorative date:
The three wise men (Melquior, Balthazar and Gaspar) are biblical characters. According to the apostle Matthew, they came from the East, led by a beautiful and bright star.
They arrived in the city of Bethlehem, birthplace of the baby Jesus, bringing gifts (myrrh, gold and incense). These gifts had a symbolic meaning. Gold represented royalty, myrrh (antiseptic resin) symbolized purity, while incense symbolized faith.
In the biblical context, the word “magician” does not mean witch or sorcerer, but rather assumes the meaning of priest or sage. They had divine powers and gifts.
In Brazil, Latin America and several countries in Europe, the day of the Three Wise Men is celebrated every 6th of January. In Brazil, even several festivals of our folklore are held in the interior of the country. In reisados, for example, groups of people go from house to house asking for gifts and singing typical songs. This festival was brought by Portuguese and Spanish colonists to the American continent.
The star we put on top of the Christmas trees represents the star that led the wise men to the city where baby Jesus was born.
