THE legend of Curupira tells the story of protector of animals and plants, he is one of the main characters ofBrazilian folklore.
O curupira it is a very strong and smart dwarf, with red hair and feet turned upside down.
As he has his feet turned backwards, he manages very easily to deceive anyone who intends to chase him through his footprints. (Thus, whoever is chasing him always goes in the opposite direction).

The indigenous people considered the Curupira as a dangerous, demonic, malicious and much feared creature.
The date of creation of this folk legend is not exact, however, the Spanish priest José de Anchieta wrote about the curupira in the 16th century. and named it as the “demon that attack the Indians”.
Here in Brazil, the first reports are from Southeast region, dating from the time of discovery, later became common throughout the country, being together with the
Ah… The curupira… Also a strong character from Brazilian folklore. Considered the Forest Demon, it has the oldest record in Brazilian literature, dating back to 1560.
Protector of flora and fauna, the curupira is the warrior of the forest and does not let any man take advantage of it from the forest, he has his feet turned backwards (to disguise his whereabouts from enemies) and red hair fire.
He always travels on top of his Caititu (a species of wild pig) and has the power to resurrect animals with his spear.

O Curupira's day or as the Forest Protection Day, is celebrated annually in Brazil in the July 17th. This date has the main objective of making people aware of the importance of preserving forests.
In Brazil, we are home to one of the most important forests in the world: the Amazon rainforest, known as the “lung of the world”. Home to countless species of animals and very important plants.
