Maps and regions

Our country is made up of 26 states, plus the Federal District, where the seat of the federal government is located. These states are grouped into five regions:

  • North Region: Acre, Amazonas, Roraima, Rondônia, Pará, Amapá and Tocantins;
  • Northeast Region: Maranhão, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte, Ceará, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe and Bahia;
  • Midwest Region: Mato Grosso, Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul and the Federal District;
  • Southeast Region: Minas Gerais, Espirito Santo, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro;
  • Southern Region: Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul.

Maps and plans serve to represent places, the plan shows more detail than a map.

On every map there is a compass rose that indicates the cardinal and collateral points

  • Cardinals: North, South, East and West
  • Collateral:

– Northeast, which is between North and East

– Northwest, which is between North and West

– Southeast, which is between South and East

– Southwest, which is between the South and the West

To find out where the cardinal points are, point your right arm to where the sun rises, this is the east, stretch the other arm where the sun sets, that's west, you'll be facing north and facing south.

The map legend is formed by symbols and colors that bring information about the map. These symbols can represent cities, railways, highways, among others.

The spaces existing in cities are occupied in different ways, some places are more commercial and others more residential buildings, some are more urbanized, others more wooded, in some the buildings have more space, in others they are more restricted.

Over time, the countries change and modernize, improving access roads, circulation spaces, roads and the number of houses.
