NAME:

Read:

Why does the sun turn orange at sunset?

The sun emits the seven colors of the rainbow and each one of them has a different wave, or size. When the star is on the horizon, that is, at dusk and dawn, the biggest waves (between orange and red) manage to travel through the atmosphere without spreading out. Therefore, both the sun and the sky take on a different color.

And have you ever noticed that, in those moments, the sun seems bigger? It's an optical illusion: when the star is on the horizon, we compare its size to what's around it (like buildings and trees) and it looks bigger.
