“Beauty and the Beast” was written by Gabrielle-Suzanne Babrot in 1740 and is considered one of the main works of fairy tales to this day. The version produced in 1992 by Disney made the story reach more people, enchanting people around the world.
The classic narrated during the play in Belo Horizonte tells the story of Bela, a young woman who lives in a village and is considered strange by the residents due to her intelligence. His father, Maurice, is an inventor who is seen as a madman.
One day, the girl's father goes to a fair to demonstrate his new invention and gets lost in the forest. Desperate, Maurice seeks shelter in a castle, but ends up becoming a prisoner of a beast. The Beast is the lord of the palace, a prince who has been cursed by a sorceress.
When Bela feels that something has happened to her father, she goes looking for her. She finds him and makes a proposal to Beast: if her father were released, she would stay there forever.
With the proposal accepted, the story unfolds and the castle's inhabitants – all the household staff that were turned into talking objects – feel that it could be a chance for the spell to be broken. But that will only happen if the Beast loves someone and that person loves him back. However, you need to be quick, because when the last petal of an enchanted rose falls, the spell can no longer be undone.
