When you lose the skin, due to scratching, scraping or cutting any part of the body, blood can flow along with it. One of the components of blood, platelets, which are nothing more than a few small pieces of cells, will start to deposit on the edges of the wound. In a few minutes, certain proteins join the platelets and form a “buffer”, which gets drier and drier. This “buffer” is the scab of the wound. The injured skin will slowly rebuild underneath this shell. And finally, when the cone falls off, the skin underneath will be brand new.
