Have you ever tried to catch a dry twig and it turned into an animal, spread its wings and flew? If this happened, it is because it was an insect known as a "stick animal", it is similar to a twig, which can be confused with a stick.
There are caterpillars that look like the twigs of plants, and crickets that mimic leaves.
Many animals take the color and shape of the places they are. They do this to defend themselves from enemies or capture other animals that serve as food.
These tricks are called mimicry, this is imitation.
The English scientist Henry Walter Bates was the one who discovered mimicry. He spent 11 years in the Amazon jungle studying animals.
