The title doesn't suggest it, but this is a book about birds! More precisely about birds from the Cerrado. The story takes place in São Carlos, a city in the interior of São Paulo. And the protagonist is a red bicycle!
The narrative is cute and very different from any children's book about birds I've read. Teak is a bike with great aspirations and the inseparable companion of child ornithologist Téo. Together they explore the region, learning about the birds that live in the city and in the Cerrado, highlighting some migratory species. The author is Silvia Nassif Del Lama, now a retired professor at UFSCar. The illustrations are by biologist Karl Mokross, a former student of Silvia, who brought to life characters with very delicate and fun features.
This is the authors' second children's book. The first, “João Paizão”, was launched in 2017 and tells the story of a family of dry heads that lives in the Pantanal.
