Refugees:
have a specific definition in international law. These are people who left their countries of origin out of obvious fear of persecution, human rights violations and armed conflicts. If they return, they run the risk of being killed. Therefore, they receive international protection and have access to assistance from host countries, UNHCR and other organizations.
Asylum Seekers:
they are waiting for the authorities of the protection and refugee systems of the country to which they fled to assess their request to be recognized as refugees.
Migrants:
have no definition in international law. The term is often used generically to describe people who left their countries voluntarily or not. However, from MSF's experience, it is often difficult to define whether displacement is purely voluntary, ___________ the search for better economic opportunities may be linked to security issues in the country of origin.
