O Neokotus sanfranciscanus it is the oldest fossil of a lizard in South America, which shows that current biodiversity emerged longer ago than previously thought. Another interesting thing is that the little one belonged to a family of lizards that was practically extinct. Also, it was not known that they had existed _______ these bands.
According to Jonathas Bittencourt, a professor at the Federal University of Minas Gerais and coordinator of the research, with the discovery, it will be possible to study how groups of lizards emerged in Brazil. “We can reconstruct the history of the evolution of these animals, by looking at records they left a long, long time ago,” he says.
