, from the Cultural Diffusion of the Book, written by Georgina Martins and Teresa Silva Telles, with illustrations by Mauricio Negro, brings in a didactic, at the same time, artistic way, a little bit of history and culture Afro-Brazilian.A boy and his grandfather cover the entire trajectory of blacks in the formation of our people, since leaving Africa in ships' holds, showing the slave routes until the difficult arrival and conditions of permanence of captives in the slave quarters. Illustrated with works and fragments of great intellectuals and artists, parade through the text, Gilberto Freyre, Debret, Gilberto Gil, Castro Alves, Father Antônio Vieira, Rugendas, among others.
The boy Inácio hears many stories from his grandfather, but he also reviews and corrects them, under the guidance of teacher, errors in the didactic discourses of her school, discussing historical concepts and prejudices and everyday. Collecting information from books, maps, music, dances, religion and cooking, the two translate the African heritage that they found in Brazilian lands, a hybrid and, curiously, singular way of resistance.
