You Isoetes they are adapted to aquatic life, but they can be amphibians or terrestrial, living underwater or on the wet banks of rivers, lakes and temporary puddles. The Caatinga is not an ideal environment for these plants, but they have strategies to overcome the dry phase. The stem and bases of its leaves are protected a little below the ground and, in this way, are able to withstand periods without rain. Even if the plant dies, the bases of the leaves persist and, in the rainy season, they release the spores to germinate under favorable conditions.
